The start of the UP200 and Midnight runs take place in Marquette tonight on the Corner of 4th street and Washington at 7pm. Alger County residents can see the mushers in Chatham at the MSU Farm checkpoint around midnight. You will also be able to see the mushers off of Rock River Road, Forest Lake Road, Rapid River Truck Trail, The Buckhorn, and Highway 13. If you head up to Wetmore, teams will cross M-28 by Hiawatha Log Homes where the Michigan State Police will be assisting. The Wetmore checkpoint will provide hot chocolate and S’mores for spectators at M28. Teams then proceed to the checkpoint at Timer Products, where the mushers must take a mandatory five-hour layover before leaving for Grand Marais (Timber Products checkpoint is not open to the public as the dogs need their rest).
