The Michigan State Police have promoted two officers from opposite sides of the Upper Peninsula. The Michigan State Police Calumet post is proud to announce the promotion of Sgt. Edward Zawada. Sgt. Zawada will oversee the day-to-day operations of the MSP service to the Baraga, Houghton, and Keweenaw County areas. Sgt. Zawada is a graduate of the 121st Trooper Recruit School, graduating in 2008. Sgt. Zawada spent several years handing traffic and criminal incidents with the MSP Calumet post. He was also a member of the Emergency Support Team and UPSET. Sgt. The Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post is proud to announce the promotion of Sgt. Adam Laninga to the Sault Ste. Marie Post. Sgt Laninga will oversee the day-to-day operations of the MSP services to the Chippewa and Luce County areas. Sgt. Laninga is a graduate of the 121st Trooper Recruit School, graduating in 2008. He was assigned to the L’Anse post after graduation, where he spent several years handling traffic and criminal incidents. Sgt Laninga is an advanced accident investigator, firearms instructor, and field training officer. St. Laninga is originally from Mackinaw City and is a second-generation MSP Sergeant. His father, Sgt. Ken Laninga, retired from the St. Ignace Post in 2010.
