Tuesday at the Munising Public Schools Board of Education meeting, the board approved the hire of a new elementary school principal. Brent Hammar will be in charge at William G Mather Elementary school next year. Mr. Hammar comes to Munising from Alaska, where he is currently the Assistant Principal at the Fred Ipalook Elementary School. Hammar is no stranger to the Alger County area as he began his career as a teacher at Burt Township.
The Munising Board of Education also elected to move on from a 7-hour school day to a 6-hour school day for at least two years. This move should help both the Munising teachers and students alike and eliminate up to 30 hours a year of kids passing through the halls. School hours will remain 8am-2:45pm
